Therapeutic Approaches

Understanding the methods we might use in therapy can help you feel more comfortable and informed about your journey. Here’s a brief overview of some of the approaches I incorporate into my practice:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):

CBT is a practical, goal-oriented approach that helps you identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. We work together to understand how your thoughts influence your feelings and actions. By challenging and replacing unhelpful thoughts, you can develop healthier, more positive ways of thinking and behaving.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR):

EMDR is a powerful technique often used to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. Through a series of guided eye movements or other forms of rhythmic stimulation, EMDR helps your brain reprocess traumatic memories so that they become less distressing over time. This approach can be particularly effective for those struggling with PTSD and other trauma-related symptoms.

Brief Solution-Focused Therapy (BSFT):

BSFT is a short-term therapy that focuses on finding practical solutions to current challenges rather than dwelling on past issues. In our sessions, we concentrate on identifying your strengths and resources, setting clear goals, and developing strategies to achieve those goals. This approach is especially useful when you’re looking for quick, effective ways to overcome specific problems and make positive changes in your life.

Trauma-Informed Care:

Trauma-Informed Care is an overarching approach that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma and seeks to create an environment of safety, trust, and empowerment. In my practice, this means that I always consider your past experiences and potential triggers, ensuring that therapy is a supportive and non-judgmental space where you feel understood and respected.

Services

In counseling, I work one-on-one with adults aged 18 and older to address personal challenges and promote mental well-being. Sessions are tailored to your unique needs, focusing on areas such as overcoming past trauma, managing anxiety or depression, improving self-esteem, or navigating life transitions. Together, we create a safe and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, set goals, and develop strategies to achieve a healthier, more balanced life.

How do I submit my super bill?

(If I don’t currently take your insurance plan according to Headway)

Insurance companies typically have a time limit to turn in your super bill of 90 days or more, some up to 180 days. This can fall under “timely filing”. To submit your super bill, contact your insurance company and ask for “member services” or check their website for instructions. There are usually three options for turning in a super bill: mail, fax, or through an online portal.

Mail - You can ask your insurance company for an address to mail the super bill to. Make sure you allow time for delivery to stay within your limit for timely filing.

Fax - if you want to keep your protected health information private, we suggest not faxing from a public fax machine (such as at the library) or a work fax machine. The receipt that shows your fax was sent will include this private health information.

Online portal - most insurance providers will have an online portal through which you can upload your super bill. It is the most secure option to send your super bill, as the website will request a login or password. It is also faster than mail or fax. Be sure to ask your insurance about this option.

What can you expect after you submit a super bill?

Insurance companies typically have a time limit for when you can submit a super bill. If you submit your super bill after this time limit, you risk losing any potential reimbursement.

It can typically take your health insurance 2-4 weeks to process your super bill. They will either pay the full amount of services minus your copay, or they will put this amount towards your deductible. If your super bill is denied, call your insurance and request information about the denial.
